Dave Portnoy is sharing his perspective.
One day after Grace O'Malley announced she was leaving Barstool Sports following the end of her 15-year friendship with Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia, the company's founder gave his thoughts on her departure.
"I don't know what people want Barstool to do," Dave said of the backlash from her exit in a Dec. 17 video on X. "You have two friends of 20 years, both employees, who ended up hating each other. It sucks. It's probably for the best that O'Malley goes on her way and who knows with Bri."
Dave also shared more insight into the fallout, which seemingly stemmed from Brianna's relationship with Zach Bryan.
"Zach is a d--k to Grace and Bri's getting f--ked up by Zach," he explained. "It's terrible. They start hating each other." (Brianna detailed her unexpected split from the "Something in the Orange" singer in October, which she alleged was emotionally abusive. Zach has not publicly addressed her claims.)
Dave said that Brianna—with whom he cohosted the BFFs podcast alongside Josh Richards from 2020 to 2024—told him in October that she planned to end her and Grace's podcast Plan Bri because they "just don't get along."
After OK'ing the decision, the 47-year-old said he reached out to Grace Oct. 17 and emphasized that he cared about her despite his close relationship with Brianna. The former thanked him for the support.
Dave claimed that he and Grace had been discussing a future solo podcast on Barstool, which he said he was "psyched" for. At this time, Brianna had gone viral following her breakup with Zach, which she went on to detail on BFFs.
"Bri was becoming an icon because she turned down the $12 million," he said, referencing an NDA that Zach allegedly offered her. "This is when everything went f--king sideways and blew up and I wish it didn't happen."
When Spotify dropped its 2024 Wrapped Dec. 4, Brianna announced on her Instagram Stories that Plan Bri—named one of the streaming service's Breakout Creators of 2024—would return as "some version" of its original.
Following her post, Grace shared a message on Instagram Stories, writing that it was her "first time hearing about this" and that "the plan was for Brianna and me to put out a joining statement about the end of the podcast."
According to Dave's Dec. 17 video—which showed screenshots of text messages—Grace's IG Story statement prompted him to confront her, emphasizing that he was "not picking sides" and that he just wanted to "put all this garbage past and move forward."
Although he believes Grace didn't intend for Brianna to face backlash from her statement, he said, "That starts a war."
Dave said that Brianna didn't help the situation by responding to fans on social media about their split, which he also shared screenshots of. Although he said he invited Grace onto the BFFs podcast, she declined.
Meanwhile, he acknowledged that despite being both of their boss, he was more partial to Brianna.
"I've done a podcast with her for f--king four years," he said. "I'm friends with her and I defend my friends. I think it's bulls--t. That doesn't mean I don't like O'Malley. I like O'Malley, but O'Malley doesn't need defense right now. The entire internet is on her f--king side and the entire internet is going for Bri's throat."
He also applauded Grace's success, adding, "O'Malley is going to be a huge f--king success. She's killing it with her comedy."
But at the end of the day, Dave sees their fallout as two friends breaking up.
He added, "I don't want this headache of being in between two life-long friends."
