It's no big little lie that Reese Witherspoon can do a sweet Nicole Kidman impression.
The Morning Show actress demonstrated her ability to mimic her Big Little Lies costar while honoring her in April at the AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute To Nicole Kidman event, as seen in a video released June 14 by the TNT channel, which is set to air the ceremony June 17.
"Most actors wait by the phone to be chosen by a director. But as an actor, Nicole has always been proactive. Even in her earliest work, she picks her directors," Witherspoon explained, before putting on an Australian accent to quote the fellow Oscar winner as saying, "But do you see that director? I mean, it's incredible. Reese, we must get her! We must!'"
As Kidman was shown smiling while watching Witherspoon from a table with husband Keith Urban, the Legally Blonde star continued in her own voice, "I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah, OK! You call her first.' And I'll be on the phone and I'll just be like, 'Yeah, I'm in.'"
Kidman, who was born in Hawaii and raised in Australia, not only stars with Witherspoon on Big Little Lies but also co-produces the HBO miniseries with her.
A third season is currently in the works. "We're moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book," Kidman told Vanity Fair in an interview published June 5, referring to the author of the 2014 Big Little Lies novel that inspired the series. "Yeah, and we're in good shape."
And fans may have the actress and Urban's daughter Sunday, 15, to thank for a season three.
"It's so lovely—propelled by Sunday Urban. She was like, 'I'm telling you, mom, you have to do it' when she saw both of the series," the actress—who also shares daughter Faith, 14, with the country star—told E! News in January. "She was like, 'I'm sick of you talking about doing it. I want to see action now'. That's a 15-year-old."
