Gary Busey Charged With Sex Offenses at Monster-Mania Con

Actor Gary Busey has faces several sex offense charges after being accused of misconduct at a fan convention in New Jersey, police say.

Gary Busey is facing sex crime charges stemming from alleged encounters with fans at a horror film convention in New Jersey.

The 78-year-old's reps had no immediate comment when reached by E! News.

Police in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, said in an Aug. 20 press release that Busey faces "sexual offense charges stemming from incidents" that allegedly occurred at the annual Monster-Mania Con hosted by the Doubletree Hotel. The actor, known for films such as The Buddy Holly StoryPoint Break and Predator 2, was one of the event's celebrity guests.

The press release said that during the weekend of Aug. 12 to Aug. 14, officers responded to a "report of a sex offense" at the venue and that on Aug. 19, the actor was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, one count of fourth-degree criminal attempted sexual contact and one count of harassment.

Cherry Hill Police Chief Robert Kempf told E! News in a statement, "At this time, we have had three women come forward and are assisting us in this investigation." He also confirmed that the women have alleged that Busey inappropriately touched them during an autograph meeting.

Busey has not yet entered a plea for the case, which remains under police investigation. He was not taken into custody at the time the inquiry began, the police chief told E! News.

Following the press release by the police, a lawyer for Monster-Mania LLC, Nikitas Moustakas, told E! News in a statement, "Our client, Monster-Mania LLC, is assisting authorities in their investigation into an alleged incident involving attendees and a celebrity guest at its convention in Cherry Hill, New Jersey last weekend. Immediately upon receiving a complaint from the attendee, the celebrity guest was removed from the convention and instructed not to return. Monster-Mania also encouraged the attendees to contact the police to file a report."

The statement continued, "The safety and well-being of all our attendees is of the utmost importance to Monster-Mania, and the company will not tolerate any behavior that could compromise those values. Monster-Mania will continue to assist the authorities in any and every way possible."

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor's office declined to comment on the matter.
