Love Island fans are well aware what's about to go down when they hear, "This week, a hot new bombshell enters the villa..." but what about everything that happens when the Islanders are off-camera?
According to Love Island USA alum Alexandra Stewart, not much. The season one star dished on life in the villa in a pair of TikToks shared August 1 and 5, answering what she considered to be the most commonly-asked questions about being an Islander.
First up, the phones. Every Islander has one, but they're not exactly useful for anything beyond receiving messages from production and other contestants (most of which result in someone yelling, "I've got a text!"). "All the phones have different dates and times on them," Alexandra shared. "No one knows unless you have a sundial and know how to read it."
For those wondering why they can't simply keep track of the date and time? "You're in confinement for two weeks before you even go into the villa," Alexandra explained. "You could technically count, but no one is thinking that. You don't even know what's going on at that point."
At least the Islanders have wine to sip on to pass the time, right? Not necessarily. "Wine comes out of a magic cabinet," the After the Island podcast host said, explaining that they only get to indulge when production says they can. "One glass, maybe two, if you're lucky."
But when it comes to their drink selection on dates, Alexandra revealed that they can pick whatever they please. "They're never gonna give you something that you don't want," she said, "like red wine instead of white."
The food situation sounds much more promising, as the singles only have to prepare breakfast for themselves because lunch and dinner are catered. The dining experience, however, is a different story.
"The boys and girls are separate at lunch and dinner," Alexandra continued, "and we have chaperones, and we're not allowed to speak to each other because they don't want the plotline to go any further. And they won't film us eating because it's not attractive."
Speaking of filming, the singles may interact with production, but the same can't be said for the camera crew. "There are no cameramen visible to the Islanders unless one slips up and you see them in the bushes," Alexandra revealed. "There are cameras just posted around the villa, that's it."
It's the opposite when it comes to filming confessionals in the "beach hut." According to the former contestant, "It's literally just a camera and a producer's voice is coming out of the camera asking you questions. So, you're just sitting there, staring at a weird camera."
Should these cameras catch any of the Islanders without their clothes on, consider that it might just be laundry day—or, in their case, laundry week.
"Laundry, you would put in a bag on your day off, and then they would send it out and you would get it a week later," Alexandra added. "And if an islander went home, then they wouldn't get their clothes."
Finally, in what's perhaps the most shocking (and disgusting) revelation Alexandra shared, she revealed, "We only had one shower, so I'll leave you with that."
